Re: Assault on Riva Bella - Outline, Missions & Signup
Although the imperial side convincingly won the war there were some very close fought battles on the day so the chaos players can take some credit from the battles. Following on from Powderfans note here is a quick run down of my battles..
Round 1 - Skew's Orks. Overall this battle was a bit one sided.. As any troops that are killed come back on the board in the deployment zone my shooty fast Eldar army had a problem . My usual tactic is to move around the board shooting as I go and basically keep out of the way. In this case I could move round the board but anything I killed would come onto the board where I would normally end up. This meant I had to weaken his troops without killing them and try and kill the few non-troops units he had. The end result was a morale victory for Skew but a technical victory for me. He lost very little of his army while I lost almost everything apart from an HQ, 1 Fire Prism and a Squad of Dire Avengers along with their immobilised Falcon. So a close and enjoyable game and Stu played really well to counter my fast skimmer army with his slow foot based army. A very interesting mission to play. Difficult for Chaos to win but fun none the less.
Round 3 - A grudge match between the Eldar and Ciarans Dark Eldar. Ciaran probably wants to forget this but never mind.. He gambled on the fact that the night fighting rule would allow his Venom containing the web way portal to survive until it could be deployed. Unfortunetly 3 of my units managed to roll over 24" on their night vision test and destroyed it causing the unit inside to fail a pinning test so they were unable to deploy the portal. On the following turn they were all killed and my very accurate firing managed to disable and destroy all of his tanks over the next couple of turns. (In actual fact I don't think my 2 Fire Prisms missed a shot all game). The end result was about 8 kill points to 2 although if it had gone on for another turn he may have pulled back 3 more points by assaulting 3 of my immobilised vehicles. Fair to say it's wasn't Ciarans best match up and by stopping the portal being deployed it made things very difficult for him. So not that close a game but good fun for me and Ciaran took it in good spirit considering not much went right for him.
Round 3 - Shagga's Chaos Blood Angels. In the end my speed in this game was Shagga's downfall. Since we both had to get into each others deployment zone he came across the table and I moved around the edge shooting as I moved. A sizeable part of his army never got to engage me with thier powerfists and melta's as I moved away from him and his vehicles took all of my firepower and didn't survive to well. He did however manage to kill all my Fire Dragons with some very accurate shooting and take a lot of guns of my tanks but unfortunetly didn't quite manage to kill them leaving me with a lot more units in his deployment zone and an imperial win. Again if it had been an objective or annihalation game it would have been very close as I struggled to kill his marines once I had kicked them out of his vehicles.
So a very enjoyable day and some very interesting and close games. The end score does not reflect how close some of the games were. The highlight of the day for me does have to be the Victory over the Dark Eldar.. It just helps prove that they were wrong to go down their chosen path!!.
The star unit for me were my 2 Fire Prisms. They hardly missed a shot all day and certainly killed more than I would have expected them to over the course of the day and thanks to the Holofields took a lot of punishment as well..
I cannot wait for the next event and next time the Eldar might have to change sides. After all we want the planet to be contested between Chaos\imperial.. It makes it easier for the Eldar to take it over if everyone else are busy fighting each other..
